Does a used car come with a warranty?

At our Lupient Automotive Group dealerships, we offer the Lupient Limited Lifetime Powertrain Warranty on most used Kia, Nissan, Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, and INFINITI vehicles less than 20 years old with fewer than 75,000 miles. This used car warranty covers the engine, transmission, transfer case, drive axles, seals, gaskets, and more, as long as you own the car.

Not every dealership offers this type of long-term warranty. For many people, buying a used car comes with a certain amount of perceived risk. Expensive repairs can offset any savings you experience by choosing a used car over a new car. With the Lupient Limited Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, you can get the financial benefits of buying a used car without worrying about expensive drivetrain repairs.

How are used cars priced?

While there are many factors considered by our used car experts when pricing pre-owned vehicles, the two most important are the car's condition and mileage. Trusted car valuation sites like Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) and the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA) factor condition and mileage into their algorithms.

Companies that create car valuations track the sales of used vehicles in the United States and use that data to predict how much a certain vehicle may be worth. A car with 150,000 miles on the odometer would have a significantly lower value than an identical vehicle with only 30,000 miles. Wear and tear on a vehicle also negatively affect its value.

The type of vehicle also plays an important role in valuation. For example, four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles sell faster in Wisconsin and Minnesota than convertibles and performance-oriented sports cars.

While personalizing a vehicle with aftermarket parts and products generally brings down its value, certain premium add-ons help increase the value. For example, premium factory sound systems, leather seats, and panoramic moon roofs cause an increase in a car's value.

Why buy a used car from a dealership?

Many people shopping for a vehicle choose to work with used car dealerships as opposed to purchasing a car from a private party. There are a few things you can get at a dealership that private party sales just can't offer.

A dealership can help you get financing. You can get a loan through a bank or credit union to buy a used car from a private party, but you may pay a higher interest rate, and it could be more difficult to get qualified if the lender doesn't agree with the value of the car. With our dealerships, you can get pre-approved online in just a few minutes, so you have a realistic budget in place when you start shopping for your pre-owned vehicle.

A private seller can't offer Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) cars or a warranty on a used car. Our dealerships are authorized to sell and service many car brands with manufacturer warranties. We can also offer you an extended warranty if/when the manufacturer warranty expires. A dealership can also handle minor repairs to a vehicle to return it to a like-new condition. When you buy a car from a private party, you'll have to handle repairs on your own.
